Uriah Heep Live at Shepperton

Uriah Heep are an English rock band formed in London in 1969. Their current lineup includes lead and rhythm guitarist Mick Box, keyboardist Phil Lanzon, lead vocalist Bernie Shaw, drummer Russell Gilbrook, and bassist Davey Rimmer. Of this lineup, Box is the only remaining original member. Throughout many lineup changes, the band has included many notable musicians, such as vocalists David Byron, John Lawton, John Sloman, Peter Goalby and Steff Fontaine, bassists Gary Thain, Trevor Bolder, John Wetton, Bob Daisley and John Jowitt, drummers Nigel Olsson, Lee Kerslake and Chris Slade, and keyboardists Ken Hensley and John Sinclair.

The band rose to international prominence in the early 1970s with a series of influential albums such as Very ’Eavy… Very ’Umble, Salisbury, Demons and Wizards, The Magician’s Birthday, and Sweet Freedom. Songs like “Easy Livin’”, “Gypsy”, and “July Morning” became enduring classics, celebrated for their epic atmosphere and emotional intensity.

A defining characteristic of Uriah Heep is their use of layered harmonies and fantasy-inspired lyrics, often exploring themes of mysticism, mythology, and inner struggle. Keyboardist Ken Hensley, one of the band’s key creative forces, played a crucial role in shaping their sound, combining heavy organ riffs with melodic sensibility. Over the years, the band has featured numerous notable musicians, including David Byron, Mick Box, Lee Kerslake, and John Lawton.

Despite changing musical trends and multiple lineup shifts, Uriah Heep has demonstrated remarkable longevity, continuing to record and tour for more than five decades. Guitarist Mick Box, the band’s longest-serving member, remains a central figure and guardian of the group’s musical identity.

Today, Uriah Heep is widely respected as a foundational influence on melodic hard rock and metal, inspiring generations of musicians with their blend of heaviness, melody, and theatrical flair. Their enduring catalog and consistent live presence affirm their status as one of the great pillars of classic British rock.
