The Agonist – Prisoners
Prisoners is the third studio album by Canadian metal band The Agonist, released in June 2012 via Century Media Records—on June 4 in Europe and June 5 in North America. Produced by the band’s longtime collaborator Christian Donaldson, the album represents a more focused and groove-oriented direction while preserving the technical intensity and melodic aggression that define The Agonist’s sound.
With Prisoners, The Agonist refined their blend of melodic death metal, metalcore, and modern extreme metal, delivering powerful riffs, dynamic song structures, and a strong balance between brutality and accessibility. The album’s lyrical themes explore social control, individuality, inner conflict, and resistance, reinforcing the band’s reputation for thoughtful and socially conscious metal. Often regarded as one of the band’s most cohesive releases, Prisoners solidified The Agonist’s position as a leading force in contemporary Canadian metal.
