Elizabeth Bathory, also known as the “Blood Countess,” was a noblewoman who lived in Hungary in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. She is infamous for being accused of torturing and killing young girls in order to bathe in their blood, which she believed would keep her youthful and beautiful. Bathory was born into a wealthy and influential family and married at a young age to a Hungarian nobleman. After her husband’s death, she became known for her cruelty and extravagance, and was rumored to have killed and tortured many young girls in her castle. In 1610, Bathory was arrested and charged with the murder of several young girls. She was sentenced to life imprisonment, and spent the last years of her life locked in a castle tower. Despite the legend of the “Blood Countess,” the historical evidence for her crimes is disputed, and some historians believe that she may have been the victim of a conspiracy or a smear campaign.
Venom released an album called “Black Metal,” which included a song called “Countess Bathory.” The song is a tribute to Elizabeth Bathory, The song’s lyrics describe Bathory as a “vampire queen” and a “demon whore,” and portray her as a symbol of evil and depravity. The song has become one of Venom’s most well-known tracks and has been covered by many other metal bands over the years.
