Frontwoman Brittney Slayes says about “Abyss”:
“This track set the tone for the whole record; conceptually, lyrically, musically, it all started here. Andy came up with the opening riff back when we were writing Apex, but I knew right away it didn’t belong on that record. When we finally started writing Abyss in 2019, this was the first song we wrote and it was the first song I listened to when the record was done. It symbolizes five years of hard work for us, and I think it does a great job of putting the listener in the right place emotionally to start the record. It hints at what the rest of the album is all about, but also doesn’t give it all away, not by a long shot!”

UNLEASH THE ARCHERS on “Northwest Passage”:
“This song means a lot to us as a band, we like to put it on during those long drives on tour and it always brings us right back home. We originally recorded it to be a bonus track for our last full length album Apex, but we loved the track so much we knew it needed special treatment. We held on to it for a bit and eventually decided to release it as its own 7″ vinyl EP with another Canadian cover song as the B side. The song “Northwest Passage” is all about touring through Canada, which Stan Rogers did a lot, and how it equates to being an explorer looking for the passage all those years ago. It really hits home with us, we’ve toured through Canada too many times to count, so we know just how Stan was feeling. That’s where the name of the EP came from too; every time we hit the road on tour it’s like we too become Explorers, with the great big unknown stretching out before us.”

The new bonus tracks were a lot of fun to create, as they’ve allowed us to show some of our other musical influences more prominently. The earbook is definitely the part I am most excited about though, being that the earbook for Abyss was really a sequel to the story from Apex. Now our listeners can read the full ‘Immortal Saga’ chapter by chapter and discover some new details that were too difficult to convey through the music. And, we can’t forget about the instrumental edition! We’ve had fans asking for it for a long time and we can’t wait to hear the vocal covers and new renditions they come up with! We are just so excited for everyone to get their hands on this new edition – it’s such a great way to celebrate the fifth anniversary of this album that will always remain so special to us!”
