Rosalía Vila Tobella was born on 25 September 1993 in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, a town north of Barcelona in Spain. She is the daughter of Maria Pilar Tobella Aguilera, a businesswoman who has been running a badge factory for decades and is also managing Motomami S.L., her own artist representation agency since late 2018.

From an early age, Rosalía showed a strong interest in music and performance. At just 13 years old, she began formal training in flamenco, later enrolling at the prestigious Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) in Barcelona. There, she spent nearly a decade studying traditional flamenco under renowned teachers, developing a deep technical foundation and cultural understanding that would later become central to her artistic identity.

Rosalía gained international attention with her debut album Los Ángeles (2017), a minimalist and emotionally intense flamenco record produced by Raül Refree. However, it was her second album, El Mal Querer (2018), that marked a turning point in contemporary pop music. Inspired by a 13th-century Occitan novel, the album fused flamenco with modern pop, R&B, electronic, and experimental sounds, earning widespread critical acclaim and multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards. Songs like “Malamente” and “Pienso en tu Mirá” established her as a visionary artist capable of redefining genre boundaries.

In the following years, Rosalía continued to push musical and aesthetic limits. Collaborations with global artists such as J Balvin, Travis Scott, The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, and Bad Bunny expanded her international reach. Her 2022 album Motomami represented another bold evolution, blending reggaeton, hyperpop, experimental electronics, and avant-garde pop. The album was praised for its risk-taking, raw intimacy, and innovative production, further cementing her reputation as one of the most influential artists of her generation.

Beyond music, Rosalía is recognized for her strong visual identity, fashion influence, and conceptual approach to artistry. She is often cited as a key figure in bringing Spanish-language music into the global mainstream while maintaining a deeply personal and culturally rooted creative vision. Today, Rosalía stands as a defining voice of modern pop — an artist who honors tradition while constantly reinventing it.
