The band was formed by guitarists and vocalists Sander Gommans and Mark Jansen in 1995 under the name of Apocalypse, playing covers of bands like Iron Maiden and The Cult. In that same period, the musicians Jack Driessen and Joep Beckers joined the group on the keyboard and the battery respectively, and time later, Luuk van Gerven was recruited into the bass as well. Two years later, in 1997, soprano singer Floor Jansen was invited to perform the backing voice in a demo, however it was decided that she should be part of the band to the full after the recordings, and from that moment on the name of the group was reformulated to After Forever.
