Fallen Angel is the 12th studio album by British rock band Uriah Heep, released in September 1978 by Bronze Records in the UK and Chrysalis Records in the US. Fallen Angel only reached No. 186 in the US Billboard 200, but in Germany, the band were at the height of their popularity. On this album, the band moved toward an AOR sound, as opposed to the progressive rock of previous albums. More @ Wikipedia
The album features the lineup of John Lawton (vocals), Mick Box (guitar), Ken Hensley (keyboards, songwriting), Trevor Bolder (bass), and Lee Kerslake (drums). Musically, Fallen Angel places a stronger emphasis on tight guitar riffs, punchy rhythms, and concise song structures, while still retaining signature elements such as Hammond organ textures and layered vocal harmonies.
Songs like “Woman of the Night,” “Come Back to Me,” and “Fallen Angel” highlight the album’s more aggressive and modern hard rock approach, while tracks such as “One More Night” and “I’m Alive” maintain melodic depth and emotional resonance. Lyrically, the album explores themes of temptation, loss, resilience, and inner conflict, aligning with its darker overall tone.
Although Fallen Angel did not achieve the same iconic status as Uriah Heep’s early 1970s classics, it is widely regarded as a solid and underrated release, showcasing the band’s professionalism, adaptability, and continued songwriting strength during a transitional period. Over time, the album has gained appreciation among fans for its raw energy and late-era Ken Hensley compositions.
