Nicoletta Rosellini, born Apr 27th, 1991, is an Italian singer, songwriter, and vocal coach, best known as the founder and lead vocalist of the metal band Kalidia and as a former vocalist of the symphonic metal band Walk in Darkness. Born in Italy, she has built a respected career within European metal through her powerful clean vocals, melodic sensibility, and strong involvement in songwriting and artistic direction.
Nightwish is a symphonic metal band from Kitee, Finland. The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and former lead singer Tarja Turunen. In 2001 Marko Hietala joined to Nightwish as a vocalist and a bass player. In May 2007 Nightwish announced Anette Olzon as Turunen's replacement.

According to Nightwish songwriter Tuomas Holopainen, the album is a concept album that tells the story of an old composer who is reminiscing of his youth on his deathbed. The album was produced alongside the movie of the same name, directed by Stobe Harju, who previously directed Nightwish's " The Islander" music video, and the album and the film share the same themes and general story.
