Jennie Skulander (born 24 February 1984) is a New Zealand singer and songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist and creative driving force of the alternative metal band Devilskin. She has become one of the most compelling rock voices to emerge from New Zealand, praised for her powerful range, emotive delivery, and commanding stage presence in both heavy and melodic music.

Jennie’s rise in the rock scene began in her native New Zealand, where she fronted the band Slipping Tongue in Rotorua before moving to Hamilton, where she met the members who would form Devilskin with her in June 2010. With her expressive vocals that can shift from whisper-soft passages to intense, gritty power, Jennie quickly became the defining sonic and visual identity of Devilskin.

As lead singer of Devilskin, Jennie has been central to the band’s success. Their debut album We Rise (2014) debuted at #1 on the Official New Zealand Music Chart and went platinum, an achievement rare for a New Zealand rock act. The follow-up albums Be Like the River (2016) and Red (2020) also reached high chart positions and critical acclaim, showcasing both the band’s heavy riffs and Jennie’s dynamic vocal expressiveness.

Jennie’s songwriting touches on deeply personal and emotional themes. For example, the song “Endo” from Red was written about her experience with stage-4 endometriosis and surgery, bringing awareness to the condition through music.

Devilskin’s sound blends alternative metal, hard rock, and melodic elements, with Jennie often praised for how her voice drives the emotional core of the music—sometimes melodic, sometimes fierce, and always expressive.
