Heike Therese Langhans (born 18 January 1988) is a South African–born singer, songwriter, and visual artist, widely respected for her work in doom metal, atmospheric metal, and dark folk–influenced music. Known for her ethereal yet emotionally intense vocal style, Heike has built a career defined by artistic depth, introspection, and a strong connection to themes of spirituality, nature, and human fragility.

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Heike grew up surrounded by art, poetry, and music, which deeply influenced her creative identity. Before entering the metal scene, she worked extensively with visual arts, poetry, and acoustic music, elements that continue to inform her songwriting and aesthetic choices. Her voice is often described as haunting, intimate, and expressive, capable of conveying vulnerability as power rather than aggression.

Heike gained international recognition as the lead vocalist of the doom metal band Draconian, joining the group in 2017. With Draconian, she made her studio debut on the critically acclaimed album Under a Godless Veil (2020). The record marked a new era for the band, blending traditional death-doom heaviness with atmospheric textures, gothic melancholy, and emotionally charged clean vocals. Her vocal interplay with harsh male vocals added a profound sense of contrast and narrative tension, becoming a defining element of the album’s identity.

Beyond Draconian, Heike is also known for her work with ISON, an atmospheric metal and post-metal project she co-founded with former Draconian guitarist Daniel Änghede. ISON explores more ambient, cinematic, and introspective soundscapes, merging metal with darkwave, post-rock, and electronic influences. Albums such as Andromeda Skyline (2018) and Inner Space (2021) highlight her role not only as a vocalist, but as a conceptual artist and lyricist, focusing on themes of cosmic isolation, inner transformation, and emotional healing.

In addition to her band work, Heike has released solo material that leans toward dark folk, acoustic, and experimental music. These projects emphasize minimalism, poetic lyrics, and spiritual reflection, often blurring the lines between song, meditation, and storytelling. Her solo performances frequently feature stripped-down arrangements that place her voice and words at the center.
