Arch Enemy is a Swedish melodic death metal band formed in 1995 in Halmstad. Initially a supergroup, its members have roots in notable bands like Carcass and Mercyful Fate. Founded by guitarist Michael Amott and vocalist Johan Liiva, the band has released several influential albums, contributing significantly to the metal genre and maintaining a strong presence in the music scene.

The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter and keyboardist  Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist  Emppu Vuorinen, and former lead singer  Tarja Turunen. In 2001 Marko Hietala joined to Nightwish as a vocalist and a bass player. In May 2007 Nightwish announced  Anette Olzon as Turunen's replacement.
