Audio Track
[A cappella, intimate contralto; room hush]
I am the breath between pine and night,
Winter’s low ember in a cradle of ice;
Green eyes open where the silence keeps,
Old words gather like wolves in sleep.[A cappella, soft harmony added]
I carry the hours that never die,
Ash and iron, rune and sky;
Hear me in the drift of snow,
A name the north alone can know.[Low drone enters; bowed lyre; heartbeat frame drum]
In the marrow of the fir, the ancestors hum,
An echo of oars, a thunderless drum;
I trace the lines the aurora writes—
Pale script on the ribs of night.[Soft chant, call-and-response whispers]
Under frost, under stone,
I am voice, I am bone;
In the hush, in the pine,
I read time’s thorny vine.[Refrain; contralto blooms, still restrained]
Whispers beneath the northern sky—
I am the quiet that does not die;
Rivers of memory, cold and wide,
Carry the names the gods once tied.[Dark ambient deepens; distant horn, muted tagelharpa]
Feather of ash, feather of snow,
The forest remembers what men let go;
Runes in the bark, runes in the breath,
A cradle for life, a mirror for death.[Soft chant, rhythmic handclap on frame drum]
Turn the wheel without a flame,
Speak the truth without a name;
Let the wind unseal the stone,
Let the old road lead you home.[Bridge; ritual cadence, layered contralto hum]
I drink the dusk from glacial glass,
I walk the thread that shadows pass;
Green Eyes watching, evergreen,
Keeper of all that falls between.[Metal surge begins; guitars in low tremolo, drums distant and thunder-soft]
Antlers of night crown the ridge of the world,
Cold fire blooms as the banners unfurl;
Steel in the river, frost in the lung—
Still I sing with an unsalted tongue.[Full Nordic-metal stride; double-kick like hoofbeats beneath, vocals remain poised]
Earth like an anvil, sky like a shield,
Memory burns where the ice won’t yield;
Storms in the marrow, oaths in the grain—
I am the witness beneath the rain.[Refrain; choir of low female voices under lead]
Whispers beneath the northern sky—
I am the quiet that does not die;
Rivers of memory, cold and wide,
Carry the names the gods once tied.[Instrumental break; tagelharpa bowing over open guitar chords, drum pulse steady]
[Chant; ritual, steady, breath-led]
Stone and star, root and ring,
Listen for the northern wing;
Bone and bark, ash and tine,
Read the mark in winter’s line.[Final crest; guitars bloom then recede, drums fall away]
When the last horn folds into white,
When the last word fades from sight,
I will remain in the timbered air—
A hush, a hand, a watching prayer.[Coda; a cappella, single voice close to mic]
If you seek me, close your eyes—
Hear the branch and hear the tide;
Green Eyes linger where the long winds lie,
Whispers beneath the northern sky.
As part of the Compilation series, Whispers Beneath the Northern Sky conjures Green Eyes as an ageless feminine presence formed by Norse memory and winter silence. Beginning in near-silent a cappella, her contralto threads organic harmonies into Nordic folk and dark ambient textures before cresting into Nordic metal contours. Even as the music grows, her tone stays close and humane, a lantern in the fir-dark.
The piece imagines runes etched in hoarfrost, bowed-lyre timbres, frame-drum heartbeats, and distant horns as portals to ancestral presence. Its dark introspection never lapses into spectacle; at full metallic weight it still breathes like a ritual. As a compilation entry, it points true north—austere, immersive, and luminous with memory.
