Dave Mustaine and Ron McGovney were early members of the heavy metal band Metallica. Mustaine played guitar and sang lead vocals, while McGovney played bass. Both were part of the band's original lineup, which was founded in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist/vocalist James Hetfield. Mustaine and McGovney were with Metallica for a short time and did not play on any of the band's released albums. Mustaine left the band in 1983 and formed the band Megadeth, which became one of Metallica's main rivals and went on to have a successful career in its own right. McGovney left Metallica in 1982 and did not pursue a career in music afterwards. Despite their brief time with Metallica, Mustaine and McGovney have had a significant impact on the heavy metal scene and are considered important figures in the history of the band.
